About Adams Morgan
Adams Morgan is a vibrant neighborhood in northwest Washington, DC centered on 18th Street and Columbia Road. Its name derives from two area elementary schools, the historically black Thomas P. Morgan and the historically white John Quincy Adams, which were desegregated in 1955. Adams Morgan is famous for its classic Victorian row houses and numerous popular sidewalk eateries and rooftop bars.
The neighborhood is home to many restaurants, bars, and clubs making it one of the main centers of nightlife in the District. Many of its venues were once popular places for live jazz and favorites of greats including Dizzie Gillespie. Adams Morgan is also located in close proximity to the National Zoo.
Adams Morgan has long been a diverse neighborhood and remains home to many recent immigrant groups. International groceries, restaurants, and world music can all be found in close proximity. The Adams Morgan Day Festival is a multicultural street fair held each year in September. Many citywide festivals and celebrations take place in Adams Morgan, including Festivus each December.
